Every research record we hold on this ingredient, printed in full — the citation, who funded the work, what the authors declared, and the date we read the source. The ingredient page shows the same records in short.
This is a disclosure finding, not a safety finding. "Flavor" / "natural flavor" is a legally defined labeling category under 21 CFR 101.22, not a single substance. The regulation permits a manufacturer to declare a blend of many individual flavoring constituents collectively as "natural flavor" without naming the component substances on the label. A consumer therefore cannot determine from the label what specific substances are present. No claim of harm is made or implied here: the components may be entirely benign, and it is not possible to evaluate them from public labeling because they are not disclosed. Two exceptions exist where disclosure IS required: major allergens under FALCPA must be declared separately even when used within a flavor, and FDA guidance (2023) requires sesame to be named specifically.
